Track and Field Day

Tomorrow is our track and feld day. We will be heading over to the Centennial High School Track right away in the morning. Students should wear their Blue Heron t-shirts and tennis shoes. They need to bring a lunch, a water bottle, and sunscreen. Hats and sunglasses are also recommended. The schedule of events is included below. It is going to be a fun day!

Friday, May 18th

Have fun at the 5th Grade Graduation Party tomorrow! Here is a preview of next week:

  • Monday - We have Cybrary and will be taking the MAP Reading test.
  • Tuesday - The patrols are going to MOA. The rest of us will have Music and attend a lyceum titled "Pirates of the Carrot Bean."
  • Wednesday - We have Track and Field Day. We will be taking a bus to Centennial High School. Please make sure your child has tennis shoes, a water bottle, a lunch, and sunscreen. They should wear their Blue Heron T-shirts and tennis shoes.
  • Thursday - We have Music.
  • Friday - We have Phy Ed.

Reminders For Tomorrow (Friday, May 18th)

Tomorrow is our school's walk-a-thon. Remember to wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes. We will be practicing for track and field after that so bring a water bottle. You may also want sunscreen and a hat. Also, story wheels are due tomorrow. Have a great evening!

Monday, May 14th

The school year is winding down. Here is what is happening this week:

  • Monday - Students had cybrary, reviewed for the MCA Science test, and signed up for track and field day events.
  • Tuesday - Students have Music.
  • Wedneday - We have Phy Ed. In the afternoon (1:00-2:30), we'll take the Science MCA.
  • Thursday - Students have Music.
  • Friday - Students have Phy Ed, Art Adventures, and the walk-a-thon. Story wheels are due today.

Here are a couple of miscellaneous reminders: Zoo Field trip slips are due this week. If you signed up to chaperone and haven't sent in $10 please do so at this time. Track and Field Day is next Wednesday. Parents are welcome to attend this event. Watch for a schedule of events.

Monday, May 7th

Good morning! Here is a brief outline of what is happening this week:

  • Monday - Students have Cybrary for specialist. We will be attending a bike show in the afternoon.
  • Tuesday - Students have Music.
  • Wednesday - We have Phy Ed. Students will be running the mile. At 2:00 we have AIMS web benchmarking.
  • Thursday - Students have Music. We will take the Unit 11 math test.
  • Friday - Students have Art Adventures (thank you Mrs. Hoglund) and Phy Ed.Students will take the weekly reading assessment and spelling test.  DARE graduation is scheduled for 2:30 today in the cafeteria. Parents are welcome to attend. Congratulations to Kennedy! She was chosen to read her essay.

Monday, April 30th

I can't believe that it is almost May! This spring has been sailing by. Here is what we have in store for this week:

  • Monday - Students have their Unit 10 math test this morning. They have Cybrary for specialist. 
  • Tuesday - April Reading Calendars are due today. We have Music for specialist.
  • Wednesday - MCA math retakes begin today. Students have Phy Ed for specialist.
  • Thursday - MCA math retakes conclude today. DARE essays are due. Students will be reading them aloud during class. They have Music for specialist.
  • Friday - We have Phy Ed and Art Adventures. Mrs. Hoglund has offered to teach our class as well as her others.

Students should also be reading their author project book so that they can complete their story wheel by May 18th. I already have four students that have completed theirs. Have a great week!

Friday, April 20th

We earned a reward party. Students voted to have ice cream and watch a movie. It was a fun way to end an MCA testing week. Next week we will continue our study of algebra, read about extreme weather, and learn about cycles in ecosystems. Here is what to expect:

  • Monday - Students have Cybrary.
  • Tuesday - Students have Music and will take the math MAP test.
  • Wednesday - Students have Phy Ed for specialist.
  • Thursday - Students have Music and DARE.
  • Friday - Students have Phy Ed.

Thursday, April 12th

We have our field trip to the Science Museum scheduled for tomorrow. The bus will be leaving school at 9:25. Please remind your child to bring a lunch. Chaperones need to drive separately and may either meet at school to follow the bus or meet us at the museum at 10:00. Here are some other reminders for the upcoming week:

  • We still need more items for our sports basket. So far we have received: a football, 2 soccer balls, 2 cans of tennis balls, a foam ball and bat, and a jump rope. I'd like to have items here by next Wednesday if possible so I have time to put it all together.
  • We have MCA Reading Testing next Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child is well-rested and at school on time those days.
  • We are not having a spelling test or weekly reading test next week due to MCA testing.
  • I still have not received the signed midterm progress reports from several students.
  • We are starting a new book project. Ask your child about it.

Monday, April 2nd

We have a four day week. Here is what you can expect:

  • Monday - Students have Music. We will review for our math test and do some small group activities.
  • Tuesday - In the morning, we will attend a band and choir concert at the middle school. After that we will take our unit nine math test. Important concepts to know include: area of rectangles, triangles, and parallelograms, volume of prisms, and graphing ordered pairs on coordinate grids. Come check out the Art and Science Fair tonight between 6:00-7:30. There is also a band information night scheduled at the middle school.
  • Wednesday - Students have Music. They will take a weekly reading assessment and spelling test.
  • Thursday- Students have Phy Ed and DARE.
  • Friday - NO SCHOOL

We are still collecting items for our carnival basket (our theme is sports). Look for a new reading calendar today. Have a great day!

Tuesday, March 27th

The next few weeks promise to be busy ones! Here are some important upcoming events:

  • Today - Students have a performance day in Music. Principal Stevens (from the middle school) is coming over to read a book and answer questions.
  • Wednesday - Students have Phy Ed. We will walk over to the middle school to watch their production of "Alice in Wonderland."
  • Thursday- The middle school counselors will be coming over to share information and answer questions, and the Lino Lakes canine officer and dog will come meet the students in the afternoon. It is our Cybrary day.
  • Friday - There is no school. It is a teacher workshop day. I will be learning how to incorpoate new technology into my teaching.

We have many other exciting and important events coming up in the near future, some of which include: The Art and Science Fair, a band and choir concert, a field trip to the Science Museum, MCA testing, and the school carnival. Our carnival basket theme is sports. We are currently accepting donations and looking for a volunteer to assemble our basket.
